A man, believed to be a construction worker at the Girton interchange roadworks has suffered a serious industrial accident.
A spokesman from the East of England Ambulance service say they were called at 12.13pm today to an eastbound section of the A14 in Girton, Cambridge.
The Ambulance service sent two ambulances, an air ambulance and two Hazardous Area Resource Team (HART) vehicles.
Paramedics treated a man, thought to be in his early 40s, who suffered serious head injuries following a fall.
He was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in a serious condition.
A spokesman from the Highways Agency - who are responsible for the roadworks there said: "We are investigating an incident which happened at the A14 Histon to Girton pinch point scheme this afternoon involving a road worker.
Our wishes go out to the worker who is in a serious but not life threatening condition.
Road worker safety is a key priority for us and we will be looking into what happened."
