Recently, as per the reports, tennis stars, Aslan Karatsev and Nikoloz Basilashvili’s involvement in match-fixing incidents has been revealed.

According to an investigation by Markus Harm and Jannik Schneider for ZDF in Germany, Two of the top 50 tennis stars Aslan Karatsev, and Nikoloz Basilashvili have been fixing matches. Their coach, Yahor Yatsyk, is also involved with them.
According to the investigation, they found that the two got an offer from the coach to fix matches on two different occasions.
Talking about Karatsev, the Russian reached the semifinal of the Australian Open last year. Also, he has won three singles titles. The latest one among them was in Sydney, earlier this year. The allegation against him is of fixing two doubles matches, one in Finland and the other in Kazakhstan. Both in the year 2020.

Basilashvili’s case investigation is pending at ITIA. His first-round doubles in Wimbledon 2021 with Moldovan Radu Albot were under investigation for match-fixing.
Coach Yatysk has worked closely with both of them. He was looking for talented players who have financial problems. Earlier also his name was associated with fixing for a long time. He approached these players when they critically needed money.
Three Tunisian tennis umpires banned
In a similar incident of corruption, ITIA suspended three Tunisian umpires. The umpires inputted wrong scores deliberately during the matches.
As per ITIA, Majd Affi is guilty on 12 charges and will receive a 20-year ban. While Mohamed Ghassen Snene and Abderahim will receive a ban of 7 years. All three of them are guilty of manipulating scores, that they input into their electronic scoring devices.
