A man who tried to rob a family owned liquor store with a sawed-off shotgun proved to be no match for the mother and daughter who worked there, if his mugshot is anything to go by.

Tyrone Lee, 36, burst into Forest Acres Liquor Store Thursday night and held Tina Ring, 53, and her daughter Ashley Lee, 30, at gunpoint as he forced them to hand over the money from the register.

But as he went to leave, the mother and daughter turned the tables on the robber, pulling out their handguns from under the counter and opening fire.

'They shot him multiple times and he kept coming,' Tulsa Police Sgt. Brandon Watkins told KFOR

At one point, Lee wrestled the gun from Tina and pistol whipped her but her daughter Ashley kept shooting.

Lee, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, eventually gave up and drove himself to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Once he arrived, he was placed in a medically induced coma. He was later arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

His booking photo reveals the extent of his injuries, after he was pictured with a neck brace, and bandages over his nose, lip and forehead.

Tina was also treated for minor injuries, according to KFOR.

Her attacker is now being held on $1 million bond and cops say they have found he has ties to another 10 robberies since January.

Lee is scheduled to appear in court on March 8.

In-store surveillance footage captured the dramatic standoff between the robber and the store clerks.

The incident began when Lee entered the store with a sawed-off shotgun on Thursday night.

Video footage shows the mom and daughter appeared to cooperate with Lee, opening the till and handing over the money inside.

But as he went to leave, they activated the store's in built security system, which locks both the outer door and inner door at the store, trapping criminals in between until the cops arrived.

Unfortunately for Tina and her daughter Ashley, the system malfunctioned, and while the outer door locked, the inner door was too slow.

Now trapped inside the store with Tina and Ashley, Lee began walking towards them to confront them, when the pair grabbed two small pistols hidden under the register and opened fire.

Tina shot Lee once at point blank range and as he tried to dodge she pumped off two more shots in his direction. Ashley appeared to be dialing 911 while her mother covered them waiting for the brazen robber to return.

At some point Lee and his shotgun have parted as he appeared to be no longer armed.

Again, he tried to charge at the women but Tina squeezed off another round and hit Lee in the leg, as he winced over in pain.

The robber was able to wrestle Tina's gun away from her, and pistol whipped her but Ashley then opened fire at point blank range.

'I didn't want to shoot her, and I didn't want to shoot him — but how can he hurt my mom?' Ashley said. 'So, I mean in her defense, I did what I had to.'

Lee, attempted to return fire with Tina's gun, but it was out of ammo.

Footage showed him fall to the floor behind the register, and tried to get up several times after being riddled with bullets, before he eventually made his escape.

Speaking out after her ordeal, Tina said: 'I didn't want him to hurt my daughter. That was my main thought.

'All I was thinking was 'just give him the money and go' and the next thing I know I see him back in my face. I'm still in shock. I don't think I have really processed everything yet.'

Store owner Justin Christian, 33, was out of town at the time of the attack and says his mother and sister 'did what they had to do'.

He told KJRH-TV: 'I'm very proud of them. They fought for their life. Had my mom not made sure that the pistol she shot was empty... he tried shooting my sister with it point-blank.

'You're not going to scare me off from my store. This is what feeds my family, this is what pays my bills.'

Sergeant Brandon Watkins, of the Tulsa Police Department, said: 'It does appear that this is going to be the guy we had been looking for. He's done multiple robberies here in Tulsa, as well as up in the county.'

Lee's family has spoken to local media about the shock of seeing their relative in a shootout.

His aunt Corean Lee told KTUL she didn't recognize the person he had become.

'When I looked at it, it was like, 'Oh my God, he was out of his mind,' she said.

'I don't know what he was on, but he was out of his mind. That was not my nephew that I saw there.'

Corean added that her nephew, who she'd raised since he was five, suffered from schizophrenia and seizures.

She added that he had returned to the liquor store to apologize.
