Police found the rotting corpse of Cindy Olivo, 33, in a Fordham Heights apartment in on July 12 after neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from next door
An immigrant who illegally returned to the US after being deported has been accused of killing his girlfriend in the Bronx and leaving her body to rot.
A court indicted 49-year-old Dominican Republic citizen, Luis Severino, on Tuesday for killing his girlfriend by stabbing her in the neck.
Police found the rotting corpse of Cindy Olivo, 33, in a Fordham Heights apartment in on July 12 after neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from next door.
Authorities at the scene initially thought she had died from an overdose but an autopsy showed two stab wounds on each side of her neck.
Soon after her murder in July, Olivo's family told the New York Daily News that she had been with Severino for around two years.
They also said that she started using drugs with him and stopped contacting her family.
'He was very weird, very strange, always distant, he was always very isolated to a corner. But we didn’t pay mind to that, we were just happy she was around,' her sister, Ana Javier, told the New York Daily news.

She added that Severino did not try to ask the family what had happened to his girlfriend after her death.
Severino, who also goes under the name of Louis Santana, Julio Torres and Luis Manuel Severino Colon, had escaped to Florida but was arrested again by mid-August.
The 49-year-old has never been a US citizen and after serving prison time for drug and fraud offences, he was deported in October 2016.
Federal prosecutors said that he found a way to smuggle himself back in to the US and started again in the Bronx.
When police found him on the 14 August, he was arrested on a re-entry of deported aliens charge but faced murder charges on Monday for Olivo's death.
