Lovers of music and milkshakes — which just about covers everybody in the world — rejoice! Christmas came early this year.

To honor the Grammy-nominated folk rock band Alabama Shakes, we’ve rounded up our three favorite milkshake recipes (two boozy, one kid-friendly) to sip while you listen — and sing along — to the group’s hit song Hold On.

Alabama Shakes, milkshakes… get it? It’s the perfect pairing.

The group is being featured on VH1’s A Very Bonnaroo Thanksgiving, which airs at 9pm ET on Turkey Day.

Pumpkin Spice Spiked Shake
Serves 1

1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 oz. pumpkin butter (recipe below)
1 oz. caramel butterscotch sauce (recipe below)
2 oz. spiced rum
1 cinnamon stick, for garnish
Whipped cream, optional

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick, if desired.

Pumpkin Butter
Makes enough for 4 shakes

4 cups canned pumpkin
½ cup sugar
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. nutmeg
2 cups apple juice

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients and sautee over low to medium heat until creamy.

Caramel Butterscotch
Makes enough for 4 shakes

4 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. salt

1. In a large, heavy-bottomed stainless steel saucepan, melt butter over low to medium heat.

2. Just before butter is melted, add all dark brown sugar at once and, over medium heat, stir with wooden spoon until sugar is uniformly wet. Stir frequently until mixture goes from looking grainy to looking like molten lava, about 3-5 minutes.

3. Once the caramelizing sugar begins to look and feel more like liquid and less like thick, wet sand, add all the cream at once. Turn heat to low and whisk cream into the mixture. When liquid is uniform, turn heat back to medium and whisk every few minutes for a total of 10 minutes.

4. Turn off heat and let butterscotch rest for 1-2 minutes before transferring into a heat-proof bowl. Cool to room temperature, then whisk in half the salt and vanilla extract. Add more until desired taste is achieved.

  • Whiskey-Wine Shake
  • 2 oz. moscato wine
  • ¾ oz. whiskey
  • ½ cup salted caramel gelato
  • Twist of lemon

1. Mix first 3 ingredients with an immersion blender until incorporated and frothy.

2. Pour into glass and twist citrus peel over the top, then garnish.

3. Send us a thank you note.

Mocha Brownie Milkshakes
Makes 2–3 milkshakes

1 pint vanilla ice cream
2 brownies (about 2-inch square), cut into small pieces
1/4 cup whole milk
3 tablespoons cold coffee
1-2 tablespoons chocolate syrup

Whipped Cream
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1. Place ice cream, brownie pieces, milk, coffee and chocolate syrup in a blender.
2. Blend until smooth with tiny brownie pieces visible.
3. Drizzle chocolate syrup on inside of glass. Pour in milkshake and serve with whipped cream, crumbled brownie and chocolate sprinkles.
4. To make whipped cream, combine heavy cream, sugar and vanilla in a metal mixing bowl. Beat on high using the whisk attachment until soft to medium peaks form. Chill bowl and whisk in freezer for several minutes before you get started.
