When one thinks of the most dominant fighters in mixed martial arts, it is natural for them to think of Jon Jones. In his UFC career, Jones became the youngest light heavyweight champion when he defeated Mauricio Rua at UFC 128. While ‘Bones’ makes the best use of his reach and physique, the former UFC champion has often faced scrutiny for having skinny legs. Veteran UFC color commentator Joe Rogan shared his thoughts on the same.

Appearing on a podcast, Rogan said, “Look at Jon Jones. Jon Jones is a great example…Jon has tiny calves. They are tiny. They are like almost non-existent. It’s the craziest thing, and he works out fu****g hard. Nobody works out harder than Jon Jones.”

“Just powerlifting, deadlifting, squats…Calves are still tiny. Tiny like tiny calves. Like it makes no sense.” Pointing towards an image of Jones, Rogan said, “Look at how little his calves are. Like you can see there, they are so small.”

The veteran UFC color commentator was also appreciative of Jones’ physique. He said, “He’s got, like, literally the perfect frame for fighting. Because he only has muscle where he needs it. He’s got shoulders, he’s got arms, he’s got thighs. He doesn’t need his calves.”

“He’s so long, it’s like he’s designed in a lab. Like if you wanted to design a perfect physique for fighting, I think it’s Jon Jones.”

Why is Joe Rogan So Important to the UFC?

While Rogan made these observations about Jon Jones, the former UFC light heavyweight champion has put on some muscle ahead of his heavyweight bow.

Jon Jones will return to the UFC as a heavyweight fighter

Some of the greatest fighters in MMA have moved up weight classes to face greater competition and win a belt in another division. Jon Jones took a similar route when he relinquished his light heavyweight belt in 2020 and announced a move to heavyweight.

Since announcing his move to heavyweight, Jones has worked a lot on his physique. ‘Bones’ often puts up videos of his training on his social media. Through these clips, it is clear that he has made immense progress.

The prospect of ‘Bones’ moving to heavyweight is exciting for fans. In the weight class, the Albuquerque native will face competition from the likes of Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

Fans will wait to see if he will be able to use his reach and continue his dominant streak, or get consumed by the power of the heavyweights. Hence, news of Jones’ return is a topic everyone has their attention on.
