Ronda Rousey had a great MMA career. She left UFC after a successful career and moved to WWE where she is making a mark for herself. At the beginning of her MMA career, it was difficult for her to find an opponent. Even after securing an opponent, Ronda Rousey’s first pro-MMA fight was in jeopardy. Ronda Rousey got bitten by a sixty-pound pit bull named ‘porkchops’ and had to get her leg sewn up before her first fight. Rousey remembers the incident in her memoir, My Fight/ Your Fight. Rousey had won all her amateur fights within the first few minutes of the fight. She, however, had to deal with a grave injury going into the first pro-MMA fight.

There was a time women MMA fighters were few and far between. It was thus very difficult for Ronda Rousey and her coach Darin to find an opponent. In her first fight, Rousey’s coach had to promise flight tickets to the MMA fighter who was to face Rousey. Showing up promised $400 and winning doubled the prize money. Ronda Rousey explained the incident that left her injured right before a very important fight.

Ronda Rousey was bitten by a dog before her Pro-MMA debut

Days before her debut fight, Rousey was in her apartment when her eighty-pound Argentinian Mastiff ‘Mochi’ got into a fight with her roommate’s sixty-pound pitbull ‘Porkchops’. In her memoir, Rousey recounts, “Mochi looked like she was going to kill him. Without thinking, I gave Mochi a swift kick in the ribs. She jumped back, leaving Porkchop flailing about. Still, in fight mode, he bit me twice—once on the foot and once in the shin. I felt his sharp teeth break through my skin and sink into my muscle. Before my body even registered the pain, I worried about what the injury would mean for the fight.”.

Ronda Rousey then saw a doctor, who was ready to see her off the record. The injury was a deep one and Rousey had to take a tough decision to ensure she reached the fight.

Ronda Rousey fought with stitches

While Rousey was initially worried that she might not be able to fight again, to her relief the doctor said all she will need are a few stitches. ‘Rowdy’, however, was in danger of tearing it up very early in the fight and would have had to deal with bleeding in the fight. Rousey was highly motivated to get in the fight and asked the doctor to do what was needed. When the doctor said she was at risk of bursting open the stitches, Rousey said, “I’ll just have to win faster than that.”

Ronda Rousey went on to win the fight with an injured leg and went on to be a top star in the UFC. Have you ever gone to a sporting event with an injury? Are you a Ronda Rousey fan because of her strong character? Let us know.
